Hours and hours of time can be lost through feeling bored. But we live in a world which affords us more possibilities than ever before, and there are plenty of ways of keeping yourself entertained. After all, you only get one life and it is too short to be stuck feeling like you are at a loose end all the time. So, to give you a helping hand in your battle against boredom, here are some techniques which you can use to stop it from becoming such an issue.

Plan Ahead

You may think that planning is a boring activity in itself, but if you can better divide your time, you help to ensure that you squeeze a lot of different things into your life. Not only this, it gives you something to look forward to in the future. You may even be able to find ways to consolidate your time and spend less of it on the things that you find to be dull and tedious, and more of it doing the things that you love. Planning ahead also helps in other ways. For example, if you have a boring daily commute, you can find some ways of making the time pass quicker. Perhaps this is by making sure that your Kindle is loaded up with a range of books to read to downloading Final Fantasy 15. This way, you won’t simply be staring out of the window and the journey will pass by much quicker.

Set Goals for Yourself

Activities can feel quite aimless and without direction unless you have some clear goals which you are working towards achieving. It could be goals in your fitness activities, your professional life or one of your hobbies. Whenever you are setting a goal for yourself, you need to make sure that it is measurable and achievable. Otherwise, it could well end up having the opposite effect and you start to feel disheartened.

Break Up Your Habits and Routines

One of the most common reasons why people feel bored is that they feel like they are stuck in the same habits or routines. So, every once in a while, you should be looking at the ways that you can shake things up just a little bit. It could be something small like taking a new route to work or something bigger like starting a new hobby. Ultimately, you have the power over your life to change things as you would like.

Make ‘Yes’ Your Default Response

A lot of people have ‘no’ as their default response when they are invited out to do something like a social event etc. Instead, you should start to say ‘yes’ on a more regular basis. You never know where this could lead you, whereas you know that another night sat watching Netflix is not going to lead to any stories which you can tell people in the future.

Beating boredom is the kind of battle which is worth taking on for anyone.
