If you have recently got a new job, you may be feeling a bit anxious and nervous. One thing that a lot of women worry about is what they should wear. You want to make a good impression and fit in with the rest of your co-workers, but you also want to stay true to yourself. So, with that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the big workwear mistakes you need to avoid.
Failing to consider what is appropriate in your industry – There is only one place to begin, and this is with carefully considering your industry and what is appropriate. After all, everyone draws his or her lines differently. You need to understand the industry you are working in, and you need to pay attention to what other co-workers are wearing so you can get an idea of what is suitable for the business in question.
Wearing overly flashy clothes – This is the equivalent of shouting. It can be very distracting for other people in your place of work.
Wearing clothes that do not fit properly – It is so important to wear clothes that you feel comfortable in and that fits you properly. When dressing for work, comfort is so important because it enables you to do your job properly and be productive. If you are wearing something that is too tight, you are going to be more worried about that than you are your tasks at hand.
Letting safety take the back seat – This is one of the biggest mistakes you can make. In any workplace environment, safety is the most important aspect. It does not matter whether you work on a construction site or in an office; you need to dress in a manner that keeps you safe and healthy. In a construction environment, this may mean protecting yourself from numerous dangerous, and therefore, you may need PPE equipment in the form of hearing protection and safety boots. However, in an office, this may mean wearing something you feel comfortable in all day and that ensures you can maintain a good and safe posture. It may also mean only wearing heels that you can walk properly in. No one wants a sprained ankle!
Wearing too much perfume – Don’t go overboard with the perfume. It can be distracting and while you may love the smell of it, it doesn’t mean that everyone else is going to.
Choosing noisy jewellery – Last but not least, don’t adorn your wrist with a number of bangles that are going to clatter against one and other throughout the day. Choose quiet and simple jewellery, like a watch and a pair of stud earrings.
If you can stay away from the workwear blunders that have been mentioned above, you can give yourself the best chance of dressing for success in the workplace. Remember, it does largely depend on the type of job you have and the company you are working for. You are a representation of their brand, and so it is vital to keep that in mind at all times.
