Natural Wrinkle-Free Remedies

As we age our skin loses collagen, which is the main substance responsible for keeping our skin smooth and taut. The lack of this means everyone becomes prone to wrinkles and lines, which for many are the first signs they are getting older. Unless you are prepared to have plastic surgery, laser treatment or chemical peels, all of which are expensive, you need to find other ways of caring for your skin if you want to stay looking younger for longer.

What many people don’t realize is that lifestyle is a big factor in the condition of your skin, and that also there are things that you probably already have in your kitchen and bathroom that can help to keep it looking good.

Helpful Oils

It was over 5,000 years ago that the Egyptians first extracted the oil from olive trees and they soon realised how useful it could be as a moisturiser. It is rich in antioxidants and vitamins A and E. These help to fight the free radicals that damage the skin. A tablespoon of olive oil massaged into your face twice a day will do wonders to bring back some smoothness to your skin.

Coconut oil is another of the really good skin tightening remedies. It has a natural skin softening effect and its moisturising properties will make existing wrinkles and lines look less deep. Massage into your skin each night before you go to bed for the best use of coconut oil to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Face Masks

People have used face masks for many years to help improve their skin, but you do not need to pay for expensive ones to do the job. A mashed banana mixed with a teaspoon of orange juice and a teaspoon of plain yoghurt will do just as well. You need to leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes. The vitamin A in it will help to lessen the effects of dark spots and blemishes and the vitamin E will strengthen the fight against free radicals, as well as help to protect your skin from the effects of the sun. This also contains Vitamin B, which will hydrate your cells, and help slow down the ageing appearance of your skin.

An egg white mask is simple to make. Take the white of an egg and mix it with a teaspoon of fresh lemon juice and half a teaspoon of honey. This will have antiseptic and antibacterial benefits that along with the astringents in the lemon, will help to fight off skin infections. This face mask is especially good for those with an oily skin as it tightens and tones as well as shrinking the pores promoting less oily secretions.

Puree half a cucumber together with some mint leaves and mix them into half a cup of Greek yoghurt. Leave it in the fridge for a while and you will have a very cool and naturally hydrating face mask. Cucumbers contain several vitamins that are good for skin and also have magnesium, phosphorous, potassium and zinc. This mix will tighten and lighten your skin and help prevent it from dry patches and flakiness.

Healthy Diet

A healthy diet can have a great effect on the smoothness of your skin. Plenty of vitamin C will help to repair sun damage and fine lines. Including Vitamin E in your diet will also help to prevent damage from the sun. Reduce the number of carbs that you consume and replace them with fruit, vegetables, nuts and wholegrain. You will not only have better skin by improving your diet, but you will also feel the benefit of being generally healthier.

If you cannot eat lots of fruit and vegetables, try making them into juices or smoothies instead. As long as you get all the vitamins and nutrition into your body, your skin will benefit from their hydrating effects.

Minerals

There are some minerals that can have a smoothing and tightening effect on your skin because of the antioxidants in them. Copper for instance, will help your skin to form collagen and elastin to act as extra support for the smooth and silky structure. It is not being suggested that you eat copper. Only a very small amount is needed and the best way to get this onto your skin is to use a cream that contains it.

Zinc is another mineral that can help with your skin as it has healing properties that will prevent acne breakouts and will lessen the appearance of any scars and lesions you may already have.

Aloe Vera

Sunburn is one of the quickest ways to damage your skin and to cause wrinkles. Applying the gel from inside an aloe vera plant can soothe any soreness, rehydrate the skin and help with the healing process. The plants are very easy to grow and having one in your home could save you a fortune, when you do not have to buy expensive formulas. The leaves regrow after you have cut them, so you can have a supply of this clear gel all the time.

Sleep

Your skin will start to look dull and tired if you are not getting enough sleep. Your eyes will start to become puffy and the wrinkles and fine lines will show even more. Try to get 7 to 8 hours every night to avoid this happening. Some people have found that sleeping on a silk pillow helps their skin as well. It seems that silk is better for our skin than cotton or synthetic materials, which can cause more of an impression on our skin.

You Cannot Avoid Getting Old

No one can avoid getting older, but that does not mean you have to give way to the wrinkles and fine lines that show your age. It can be quite simple to keep your skin looking younger you just have to be prepared to put some effort in. Just remember two things though. The skin around your eyes is the most delicate we have and needs treating with care. When you are treating your face, do not forget to treat your neck as well, as that can be a real tell-tale sign of age.
